Specialty Week Wilderness Excursion
June 11-16
Enjoy the great outdoors through a week of learning the tips and tricks of rustic and backcountry camping! Along with all the activities you get to do at camp, you’ll get to spend two days hiking and backpacking in the Yankee Springs Recreational Area!
Campers will experience a couple days on each side of ‘typical” Summer Camp but leave camp for two nights mid-week. They will get to go to some chapels, swimtime, free time, etc but it will be limited.
We will be hiking 3-4 miles per day, and learning how to start a fire, Leave No Trace practices, traditional and fly fishing, and “over the fire” cooking. We will also be spiritually digging deeper with devotions, playing games, and spending good time together as a group.
What you will need:
- Good shoes to hike in
- Snacks that you like
- Appropriate dress for the weather
- Water
- Sunscreen
- Small Bible
- Mosquito Spray
- Fishing Pole if you want to fish
- Modest swimwear if you want to swim
- Sleeping bag
Manistee Backpacking Expedition
July 12th-15th

The Manistee River Trail is a beautiful, scenic hike that provides wonderful opportunities to unplug, explore, connect with yourself and nature, and most importantly, connect with your Creator, God.
According to travelovermiway.com, the basic details to know about The Manistee River Trail are that the trail “is a 10.5 mile long trail stretching from Coates Hwy at Red Bridge River Access to O’Rourke Rd at Seaton Creek Campground. There is about 1,000ft of elevation change. This trail can be made into a loop, commonly named the Manistee River Loop, by connecting over to the North Country Trail (NCT).”
You may be familiar with this hike and know that the entire loop is a total of 19 miles. Our group, however, will be hiking the 10.5 mile trail, the first part of the trail.
We will be hiking 3-4 miles per day, and learning how to start a fire, Leave No Trace practices, traditional and fly fishing, and “over the fire” cooking. We will also be spiritually digging deeper with devotions, playing games, and spending good time together as a group.
